The housing market in Szeged seems to be picking up after the Chinese BYD announced last December that it would build a factory in the city. In January 2024, there were 68% more searches for apartments in Szeged on ingtalan.com than a year earlier.
If this was not enough of an argument to arouse investor interest, here is another telling figure: in January of last year, the average price per square meter of newly built properties in Szeged was HUF 907,000, before the announcement in December it was HUF 911,000, but this January it was HUF 958,000. This is an increase of more than 5% in a single month.
The price of second-hand apartments has not really taken off yet, but this segment has already increased by 1% since the announcement.
According to László Balogh, the leading economic expert of ingtalan.com, the new factory will blow up the housing market in Szeged, as it happened in Győr, Debrecen or Kecskemét.
The ingtalan.com expert also indicated that in the coming years, a significant price increase can be expected not only in Szeged, but also in the surrounding settlements. The ever-increasing demand, on the other hand, is not immediately integrated into real estate prices, but gradually. So anyone who wants to invest in the area now can do so at a good price.
